Frequently asked questions

Question not covered? Read how it works or get in touch.

What does GeneticPlace cost?

Listing is free for the seller, including when the animal sells. The buyer pays 5% buyer commission on the purchase price. That is the only amount that goes through the platform. Some sellers have a different rate; what you pay is always on screen before you confirm.

Do I pay the purchase price through GeneticPlace?

No. Through the platform you pay only the buyer commission. You settle the purchase price for the animal directly with the seller. The platform never holds the purchase price and is not a party to the sale itself.

When do I get in touch with the seller?

As soon as the buyer commission is paid, a private conversation opens between you and the seller. There you agree on payment of the purchase price, any inspection, and transport. Before that you can ask your question in the public questions section under the lot.

When are the auctions?

On the last Friday of the month, between 20:00 and 22:00 Dutch time. Outside that round, lots are listed at a fixed price or announced as an upcoming auction.

Can someone snatch it away at the last moment?

No. A bid in the final minutes extends the auction automatically, so you still get to respond. You can also set a maximum bid: the system then bids on your behalf up to that amount, in the fixed steps that belong to the price level.

What does a verified seller mean?

That we checked that seller's business details and trade register number before the profile went live. You see the label on the lot page and on the seller profile. It says something about who the seller is, not about the quality of any individual animal.

What if the animal is not as described?

Report it to us as soon as you can. We mediate between buyer and seller. What the platform can and cannot do in that case is set out on the buyer protection page. If in doubt, always have an animal inspected before you transfer the purchase price.

Do you arrange transport?

No, buyer and seller arrange transport between them in the conversation that opens after the commission is paid. Live cattle are subject to legal requirements for transport and registration; those remain the responsibility of the parties themselves.

What health information is shown with an animal?

The herd's status for IBR, BVD, leptospirosis and salmonella, and the para-tuberculosis status. A seller can also upload a health declaration; we assess it first, and only then does the matching label appear on the lot page.

Which breeding values are shown?

The genomic breeding value in the system the breeder uses: NVI, RZG, GTPI or GLPI. Every animal also shows the maternal line up to three generations back, with the production figures of its ancestors.

Can I buy embryos individually?

That depends on how the breeder offers them. Embryos are listed individually or as a package. With a package, the quantity and the price per unit are on the lot page.

Can I negotiate on a fixed price?

Yes. On a fixed-price lot you can make an offer. The seller can accept it, decline it or make a counter-offer. An offer has a time limit, which is shown with it.

Do I need an account?

Not to browse: the full range is public. For bidding, buying and contact with the seller you do need an account.

I want to sell myself, how do I start?

Sign up through the seller page. We check your business details and trade register number, and after that you can list your first lot. Listing costs nothing.

How do I reach you?

By email at info@geneticplace.com or by phone on 06 30 10 29 55. For a question about one particular animal, put the address of the lot page in your message and we can look at it straight away.
