About GeneticPlace

The marketplace for Dutch cattle genetics

What we do

GeneticPlace is an online marketplace for cattle genetics: breeding cattle, stud bulls and embryos, straight from Dutch breeders. We bring together breeders who offer genetics and farmers who are looking for them, in a place where the details that matter in this trade are actually there: the full maternal line, the production figures of the ancestors, the herd's health status and the genomic breeding values.

Until now those details were scattered across closed groups, phone lists and loose adverts. Anyone wanting to assess an animal had to call, wait, and trust what they were told. On GeneticPlace they are on the animal's own page, in a fixed layout, so that two animals can be put side by side.

Who we are

GeneticPlace is a trading name of DJM Genetics, a sole proprietorship based in 8363 TJ Wetering. The platform was set up by two people: a founder with a background in engineering and business who builds the platform, and a cattle specialist who works in the sector every day and guards the subject matter. That second role is why the fields on a lot page match how breeders really talk about animals, rather than what was technically convenient.

  • Trading name: DJM Genetics, trading as GeneticPlace
  • Legal form: Sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak)
  • Chamber of Commerce number: 87933071
  • Registered address: Wetering-Oost 14a, 8363 TJ Wetering, The Netherlands

How sellers are verified

Listing is not open to just anyone. A breeder who wants to sell first goes through a seller application, in which we check the business details and the Chamber of Commerce number before the profile goes live. Only after that can a lot be listed. The lot page and the seller profile show whether a seller has been through this check.

Health declarations uploaded by a seller are assessed separately before the matching label appears on the lot page. A label about animal health has legal and veterinary consequences, so it cannot be self-service.

How buying works

A lot is listed at a fixed price or goes into an auction the breeder starts. Auctions run on the last Friday of the month, between 20:00 and 22:00 Dutch time. On a fixed price a buyer can also make an offer, which the seller may counter.

The platform is an intermediary and not a party to the sale. Through GeneticPlace the buyer pays only a buyer commission; buyer and seller settle the purchase price of the animal between them. Once the commission is paid, contact between the two parties opens. What we do and do not guarantee is set out on buyer protection.

Questions or a dispute

If something goes wrong between buyer and seller, a dispute can be reported to us and we mediate. For all other questions you can reach us through the contact page. The full agreement is in the terms and conditions, and how we handle data is in the privacy statement.
